Authentic Hojicha 焙茶, is a most unique style of tea. Our Hojicha is created by first steaming selected leafs and then meticulously roasted to yield a smooth, lifted aroma that brightens the senses.

Through the roasting process, tannins (such as catechins), which tend to cause bitterness, are broken down, resulting in a reduction of astringency and bitterness, leading to a lighter and smoother taste experience compared to other teas.

Hojicha is widely adopted in the typical Kyoto household. In fact, you may even find Hojicha served in the service of refined kaiseki cuisine and at many of Kyoto's high-end restaurants.

Hojicha was developed in Kyoto just over a hundred years ago and though it has a humble tea profile, it is enjoyed by many.

These days Hojicha makes its appearance in so many modern manifestations in cafes such as Hojicha latte, convenience stores, and other local marts etc.

For now though, we enjoy the traditional style of Hojicha which offers such a bold refreshing clean roasted aroma. And because of its lower caffeine content when compared to coffee for example, you can drink it all day long.
