'First Crop' leaves, 一番茶, are picked during the first harvest of the year and are considered the best selection in the year. In the Uji region the first crop is typically harvested in May.
Consequentially, the tea leaves are 'young and lively' and tend to yield a richer and zippier aroma. First Crop Genmaicha exhibits an alluring fragrance emanating from cleanly roasted genmai grains blended with 'first picked' new 'shincha' tea leaves from Uji.
